Netflix reveals After Life’s emotional trailer for final series

Netflix has premiered a brand-new trailer for Ricky Gervais’s bittersweet comedy series, After Life.

The upcoming series 3 will premiere on January 14, 2022, and Netflix also recently confirmed it will also be the last series for the show.

The trailer shows Gervais’ character Tony announcing that he’ll be taking a trip to scatter his dad’s ashes and what follows are some quite interesting interactions.

He also has a very sweet chat with Anne (Penelope Wilton) on their bench in the graveyard, where he gets upset thinking back on one of his regrets about the things he said to his wife (Kerry Godliman) about the afterlife.

It might be the final outing for this show, but Gervais and Netflix are continuing their partnership, with Gervais pitching three completely different series to the streamer, but with no hints about which one it could be.

Speaking of his future, he previously said: “I’ve got it down to three totally different ideas and Netflix has already bought it because I told them I want to end After Life now and so they said, ‘OK, we want the next thing’.

“We will just start with the next thing, same deal, but I don’t know which one I’m going to go for. I can’t even think about it yet. I have got the outline of three completely different sorts of sitcoms and shows.”

He further teased: “One of them is a sitcom. One is probably more sitcommy than anything I’ve ever done. I can’t tell you anything about it in case someone rips it off!”

Seasons 1 and 2 of After Life are available to stream on Netflix. Season 3 will be available from January 14.
